As one of Vermont's oldest General Stores, Sherman's has been serving the Rupert and Salem communities for well over 150 years. In fact the main building here opened its doors for business just before Abraham Lincoln was elected as our 16th President.
Much has changed since that simpler time. The Civil War came and went. The Wild West was tamed. Railroads connected New York to San Francisco and dairy cows replaced hillsides of sheep as Vermont's largest agricultural mainstay.
After a lot of other changes in between, today you can access news from around the entire world on that same little screen that you're using to read about why people still love to shop here. It's all about the time.
We take the time to listen. We take the time to make great food. We're always happy to take special requests for local products or unusual goods. More than anything else we try to make Sherman's store a comfortable spot to relax in today's too busy world.
There's a saying about Vermont that goes "If you're in a hurry - you're in the wrong state". We'd like to think that when you visit Sherman's - you're enjoying a taste of hospitality from those simpler times when a little store greets you by your name and offers great value at honest prices. True, we might not carry everything you want. But we sure try to carry everything you need. Hope to see you here real soon.
